BUBBLES

In her experimentation with inflatable plastic (bubble wrap) – the ultimate protective material for valuables – Nhuch creates a contrast between the essence of objects and their outward appearances, their envelope. A material that is ubiquitous within the art world, normally used to protect valuable objects, has its function subverted, pointing outward with its glitzy exoskeletons, containing nothing but air. Digging into the philosophical meaning of packaging and seeing the bubble wrap as “invisible treasures,” Nhuch manufactures her own inflatable plastic, adding a playful meaning to the modernist concept of “ready-made”. These inflated sculptures are built on a structure made with wood, cardboard and foam, strengthened with resin or fiberglass to create a glossy finish of auto-grade paint.

FOREVERNESS (2013-2016) is a series of sculptural works inspired by Miami’s superficiality and sensuality. Based on experimenting with industrial bubble wrap, Nhuch reflects on Miami’s abundance of expensive shiny, voluptuous objects and the obsession with staying young forever. This series comprises wall pieces, 3D sculptures and temporary installations.
